Hidden In North Canaan CT, Offering Some Of The Best Chinese Food I Have Ever Eaten.
The Great Wall Chinese Restaurant is truly a hidden gem when it comes to Chinese cuisine. There are a few facts I would like to point out in advance. Although they offer dine in and take out, their dining area is very limited with only a few booths, they do not serve beer, wine or cocktails and they do not accept credit cards. I would consider the Great Wall Chinese Restaurant to be primarily a take-out restaurant, but one of the best I have ever experienced.
For starters, I was able to catch a great view of the kitchen, and it was incredibly clean, which gave me a feeling of comfort and the thought that maybe, just maybe, the food might also be incredible. And it was! In fact, we have ordered food several times now from the Great Wall, each time with visiting house guests, and not once has anyone not been blown away by the amazing Chinese food this hidden gem turns out.
Speaking of the food, let me start by saying that every dish I have tried has been nothing short of amazing. The Egg Rolls are crispy and packed with flavorful vegetables, while the Crab Rangoon’s were creamy and indulgent. The Boneless Spareribs were tender, juicy, and perfectly seasoned to leave a delightful taste in every bite.
One of the highlights is their Wonton Soup. It was piping hot and filled with delicate dumplings, complemented by a savory broth that warms the soul. The Pork Egg Foo Young was a delightful blend of eggs and tender pork, cooked to perfection and served with a delicious brown sauce/gravy.
The Great Wall Chinese Restaurant’s rendition of General Tso’s Chicken was outstanding. The chicken pieces were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, coated in a tangy yet slightly sweet sauce that will leave you craving for more. The Chicken Chow Mein was filled with generous portions of juicy chicken and fresh vegetables, all stir-fried to perfection.
For those looking for vegetarian options, the Vegetable Lo Mein was a standout. Packed with colorful vegetables and perfectly cooked noodles, it was a satisfying and flavorful dish. Finally, the Happy Family dish, one of their Chef Specials, truly lived up to its name, combining a variety of fresh meats, seafood, and vegetables in a delightful harmony of flavors.
In conclusion, the Great Wall Chinese Restaurant has undoubtedly impressed me, my family and friends with its wonderful food and friendly staff. The Great Wall Chinese Restaurant is a must-visit. I highly recommend trying the Egg Rolls, Crab Rangoon’s, Boneless Spareribs, Edamame, Wonton Soup, Pork Egg Foo Young, General Tso’s Chicken, Chicken Chow Mein, Vegetable Lo Mein and Happy Family for an unforgettable dining experience, though I can’t imagine any item on their menu not being enjoyable.
